Our Story — A Life Rooted in an Ancient House

I was born in Houpu, Jincheng Township, Kinmen. My mother was a daughter of the local Hsu family of Houpu, while my father came from Gulangyu Island. I grew up surrounded by Kinmen’s traditional houses  mansions. In my childhood memories, these old houses were simply what a home in Kinmen looked like.

Our little traditional house was home to eleven brothers and sisters. The house itself was small, but it was filled with warmth and affection. Every day, there was the comforting aroma of meals lovingly prepared by my mother, accompanied by the lively chatter and laughter of children. So many of my most beautiful memories remain preserved within the walls of that old house.

Perhaps my love for traditional houses is, in truth, a longing for the purest and most beautiful emotions of childhood — the closeness of family, the simplicity of life, and the warmth of being together.

In 2005, I successfully bid for the first historic house restored by Kinmen National Park Headquarters. It marked the beginning of a new chapter in my life. What began as an extension of my affection for old houses gradually became a sense of responsibility — a wish to preserve these historic homes and to pass on the beauty they hold to travelers who come from afar. Through these houses, I hope to share something simple yet precious: the warmth and goodness that connect us as human beings.

The wind wanders gently through the old house. Morning sunlight slowly moves across the courtyard, while flowers bloom quietly in their own season.

Since returning to live in a traditional house, I have gradually discovered a deeper philosophy and value in everyday life. The old house has become a place where both my body and mind can find rest.

Looking back on the years when I worked as an overseas tour leader and traveled through many countries, I now realize that returning to my hometown and to an ancient house allowed everything to come together. The experiences I accumulated through travel, together with my professional knowledge and understanding of hospitality, could finally find their place here. Seeing them unfold naturally within these historic spaces has brought me more joy and inspiration than I ever imagined.

For every traveler who has the good fortune to cross paths with us, I hope that your encounter with the old house — and your time spent with us — may offer you a little inspiration and nourishment for your own journey.

Every person is a book.

From the uncertainty of our earliest explorations to the boldness of youth, we learn to listen to the wind and the rain. As the years flow quietly onward, our experiences gradually become the wisdom of our lives.

Every meeting is a kind of fate.

Through the wisdom held within these two-hundred-year-old houses, I hope that we may enrich one another’s lives, gain a little more strength and understanding, and continue our journeys through life with steadier and more confident steps.
